Warhol's Soup Cans... in real life!
http://http://www.artnewsonline.com/issues/article.asp?art_i...
Even though famous artist Andy Warhol has been dead for twenty years, people seem to be continuously (if not increasingly) interested in his work. Campbell's Soup issued a limited edition soup label featuring the famous Warhol-style pop-art colours, which have become known as a symbol of wealth and power. A supermarket in a small rural Ohio town sold the cans for $2 each, but two years later a ritzy store in New York sold each individual can for $12. Around the same time, Warhol's prints of the famous soup cans sold for about $11.8 million. Is the interest in Andy Warhol being resurrected, or is it just a trend that will fade?

In mid-September, eleven priceless Andy Warhol paintings were stolen clean from the home of philanthropist Richard Weisman. After reporting the crime, Weisman is choosing to not collect the twenty-five million dollar insurance policy he had placed on the paintings. Andy Warhol, perhaps known most famously for his innovative pop art, also produced many lesser known album covers. In a new book entitled "Andy Warhol: The Record Covers, 1949-1987," Warhol's little known, but prolific work as an illustrator of album artwork is revealed. Fifty-one albums are catalogued, from the well known Velvet Underground & Nico cover, to more obscure, but still interesting jazz and folk covers. Written over the course of twelve years, the book is comprehensive and personal, relating Warhol's side career as an album artist with his acclaimed pop art.

Warhol’s Green Car Crash Gets Record $71.7 Million at Christie’s Auction
http://disembedded.wordpress.com/2007/05/16/warhols-green-ca...
Though expected to sell for about 35 million, Warhol's "Green Car Crash" sold for 71.7 million during an Auction at Christie's in New York. Five people immediately began bidding for the piece, but the final sale was made to a telephone bidder in asia. It is speculated that the unknown buyer may be the same man who bought Warhol's painting of Mao in 2006. Other pieces of Warhol's that sold that evening were "Lemon Marilyn" along with a self-portrait.

Who da artist?
http://www.andywarhol.com
In the Marilyn prints, the true artist is Andy Warhol, the signature on the painting. Even though Warhol had help in executing his work, the idea began with him. THe credit for the plain photograph of Marilyn Monroe is not his, but his version is totally original. His workers who copied his orgiginal in the "factory" are like an extension of his creative prowess. Andy Warhol is the public's icon, to which we owe a lot of appreciation for revolutionizing the way we view art. It's like in sports, the whole team assists in bringing the ball down the field, but the scorer receives credit for the goal.
