Richard Dupont in the VIP lounge

Richard Dupont produced 180 replicas of his own body and is showing them in the lounge of the Armory Show. He made the piece during the height of the Iraq war, but he believed that it was not ready to be accepted. The replicas are slightly melted and he is fascinated how the meaning of his work changes as the environment around it changes.

Iraqis Turning War Items into Works of Art

At Baghdad University's College of Fine Arts, students are utilizing local materials to create art. Since guns and other weaponry have been quite prevalent in the area, they use the scraps to form sculptures of scenes and people. The recycled art ranges from a modern Egyptian rendition of a queen to a cowboy. This is really a unique form of art, literally using found objects.

The Art Fund Calls for New Stamps in Remembrance of Iraq Heroes

With the release of the Lest We Forget stamps on 6 November, ahead of Remembrance Sunday, The Art Fund, the UK ’s leading independent art charity, is calling on Royal Mail to issue official war artist Steve McQueen’s commemorative stamp design. The stamps feature portraits of service men and women killed in the conflict in Iraq . In a survey of the British public seven out of 10 said they would buy the stamps and nearly 14,000 have signed the petition at www.artfund.org/queenandcountry

Some antiquities returned to Iraq

At the National Museum, 15,000 or so pieces of art went missing during the chaos following the United States invasion in 2003. Around 6,000 artifacts have now been recovered and returend to the museum. However, the directors of the museum are not taking any chances: they have decided not to open the museum until maximum security is assured. They want to make sure that Baghdad and surrounding areas are safe enough for the museum to open. Renovations to the museum are being made and many countries such as the United States have donated money.
