Selling a Pollock
http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/2007...
The University of Iowa recently considered selling its most famous piece of art, Jackson Pollock's Mural. The abstract painting comprises the majority of the monetary value of the school's entire collection, and officials said that the money obtained could be used to diversify the collection. The money (an estimated $20-$140 million) could also have been used to purchase other items for the school.
Eventually the auction was decided against, as the painting is seen as part of the school, and is now part of the permanent collection.
