Graffiti Art
1 / 0
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2009/05/chaka...
On April 25, 2009 a new art gallery opened at the Mid- City Arts. It was dedicated entirely to street arts, a.k.a. graffiti. The artist was 36 year old Daniel Ramos, alias Chaka. For the opening, 700 fans showed up. The show runs until May 24. However, the reason I chose this article was due to the amount of controversy that surrounds it. The article is posted so that comments are allowed. The few comments posted people show the outrage of some people that such a show would be allowed. Join discussion...

Grffiti OK?
2 / 0
http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/but-here-graffiti-is-ok/...
The council in Marrickville, Australia recently completed a report that labels graffiti as an art form with significant cultural value. The council is considering a policy that tolerates and even possibly protects some forms of graffiti on public buildings, when the owner is not bothered by it. The plan does , however, involve continuing the abrupt removal of tags because tagging is a territorial action that facilitates gang violence. Join discussion...

Street art is gaining acceptance

http://www.artnews.com/issues/article.asp?art_id=2570
Street art, the generic name for graffiti, murals, or 3-D installations which are created either legally or illegally in urban settings, is on the rise. Several artists known for their work around major cities have been featured in galleries in New York, London, and elsewhere. This is leading to a greater acceptance and better public opinion of street art, although it can still land its creators in jail. Join discussion...

A Two-way Street

http://www.artnewsonline.com/issues/article.asp?art_id=2570
This article is about street art gradually being viewed in a new light. Many people used to associated graffiti with juvenile delinquents and gangsters who had nothing better to do with their lives than vandalize buildings. Now people are learning to appreciate street art and there have been museums, institutes, even laws prohibiting eliminating graffiti, made for this art. Street art not only includes graffiti, but also stickers, posters, murals, and sculptures. Join discussion...

http://gawker.com/news/face-of-the-underground/banksy-reveal...
British newspaper the Daily Mail believes it has identified the anonymous grafitti artist Banksy as Bristol native Robin Gunningham. The newspaper has substantial reason to believe Banksy and Gunningham to be the same person, but Gunningham himself has still not been located. People have speculated that Banksy may not even be one person, but a collective of artists, or may have artists working for him. Join discussion...
