2 / 0
http://www.artnewsonline.com/issues/article.asp?art_id=2784
Twenty years after Warhol's death, the Campbell's soup company designed a special can dedicated to Warhol. Now lots of Andy Warhol paraphernalia can be found - from candy to condoms, yes, condoms. The Warhol Campbell's soup was first unveiled in 2004, then in 2006 a 'Happy Holidays' can was sold for 12 dollars a can. Expensive stuff. Many more designs were also released. This article describes many instances in the 21st century in which people paid tribute to Warhol with the release of limited-time products portraying his work. Join discussion...

For New Hotels, Art Isn’t Merely Decoration
1 / 0
http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/05/03/travel/03heads.html?scp...
This story is about recent trends in modern hotels involving art. Specifically, this article details the Thompson LES, a hotel in Manhattan, New York. Above each bed is a giant light box featuring a picture of a tree from a specific artists series. This adds an organic element to the rooms. There is also a large pool in the hotel that boasts a giant picture of Andy Warhol on the bottom. This shows how art has been fused with architecture in more obvious ways than in the past. Andy Warhol, perhaps known most famously for his innovative pop art, also produced many lesser known album covers. In a new book entitled "Andy Warhol: The Record Covers, 1949-1987," Warhol's little known, but prolific work as an illustrator of album artwork is revealed. Fifty-one albums are catalogued, from the well known Velvet Underground & Nico cover, to more obscure, but still interesting jazz and folk covers. Written over the course of twelve years, the book is comprehensive and personal, relating Warhol's side career as an album artist with his acclaimed pop art. Join discussion...

Warhol's Disturbing Paintings Exhibited
1 / 0
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2008-03-17-warhol-works_...
Andy Warhol, who died in 1987, was best known for his paintings and screen-prints of images from popular culture, including celebrities and food. However, he also had an interest with violent death, especially after he was shot and wounded in his studio by Valerie Solanis in 1968. Many of his lesser-known works depict electric chairs, skulls, plane crashes, and drug paraphernalia. Some of these more disturbing works are now being displayed at Grand Rapids Art Studio, in Grand Rapids Michigan. Join discussion...

Hugh Grant's Liz Disappoints in Art Auction
3 / 0
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid...
"Liz (Colored Liz)" by Andy Warhol earned less than its 25-35 million dollar estimate, selling for only $23.7 million at Christie's on November 14th. The 1963 work, purchased by Hugh Grant for $3.6 million, appreciated hugely but was perhaps overvalued by auction officials. Many other modern and pop artists' work sold exceptionally well, as with a 1955 Rothko that fetched the evening's highest bid: $34.2 million for "Untitled." This auction, and the others of the season, are being closely watched for signs of art market stagnation. Join discussion...
