In Rio de Janeiro, Peter Coffin flew his U.F.O as part of a rather freeform art exhibit of its own; because there are so many UFO sightings in R.d.J, he chose that place for this second showing of his piece of art: a huge light-show of a flying saucer. The first show was in Poland last year.

Damien Hirst, probably the richest, most famous artist of the twenty-first century so far, unveiled his new clothing line last week at a Los Angeles showing. Hirst, who set the record for largest selling at single artist auction in September, has partnered with Levi Strauss & Company to produce a line of clothing inspired by his art. Already, many critics have praised the artist's venture into fashion. Much of collection consists of "psychedelic" pants designed by Hirst. These pants are now on sale, with the price starting at roughly $80,000.

Artist, Ajinbayo Akinsiku, wants the world to know Jesus, but this time He's different. His goal is to tell the story of Jesus in a graphic novel, sort of manga (yay for Taylor) image. Mr. Akinsiku says his Son of God is “a samurai stranger who’s come to town, in silhouette,” here to shake things up in a new very abridged bible. Its basically "The Message" version of the bible but much more story based and Japanese. The graphic novel is presented in a very brazen way that personifies Christ as a tough guy with kickbutt street smarts. Publishers with an eye for marketing thinks that the new edgy graphics would be directed towards just-married couples, teenage boys, teenage girls, and recovering addicts. In the last year, over twenty major religious and secular publishing houses have announced or released manga religious stories. "The medium shapes the message" says Akinsiku. Manga often focuses on the action of the epic, the exaggeration of mostly only the darker, more extreme areas of the Bible. “It opens up new ways of understanding Scripture and ends up breaking the idols a bit.” says religion professer Timothy Beal, at Case Western Reserve University. While known for characters with big eyes and catwalk poses, manga is also defined by a laconic, cinematic style, with characters often doing more than talking. While the heroes look and sound like skateboarders in Bedouin gear, they loose their gentle mystique that most Bible readers see. Abraham rides a horse out of an explosion to save Lot. Og, king of Bashan, looms like an early Darth Vader. The Sermon on the Mount did not make the book, though, because there was not enough action to it. “For the unchurched, the book is to show that this thing, the Bible, is still relevant,” he said, “because it talks about what human beings do when they encounter God.”
