The Art Fund Calls for New Stamps in Remembrance of Iraq Heroes

With the release of the Lest We Forget stamps on 6 November, ahead of Remembrance Sunday, The Art Fund, the UK ’s leading independent art charity, is calling on Royal Mail to issue official war artist Steve McQueen’s commemorative stamp design. The stamps feature portraits of service men and women killed in the conflict in Iraq . In a survey of the British public seven out of 10 said they would buy the stamps and nearly 14,000 have signed the petition at www.artfund.org/queenandcountry

Scottish National Portrait Gallery Opens the Intimate Portrait

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery will be the first ever UK museum to open an exhibit on an important, yet relatively unexplored area of intimate portraits. this includes the time between the 1730s and the 1830s when some of th country’s greatest artists produced beautifully worked portraits in pencil, chalks, watercolours and pastels, as well as miniatures on ivory, that were often exhibited, sold and displayed as finished works of art.

Black artsits are the focus in Mansfield venue

Various black artist are spotlighted in an interesting show located at OSU-Mansfield. The subjects of their art include different scenes of black history. Some are portraits of famous African-Americans. Each artist has a personal story about their inspiration and the importance of the work they do is undeniable. The different artist have different styles, ranging from bright, simple shapes, to meticulously detailed portraits. The show will be on display until Feb. 29
